Beautiful paintings accompany this thougtful post on the creative process by the talented artist and blogger Janet Weight Reed.
Like a flying jewel, the hummingbird darts lightly through the world, teaching us to appreciate the wonder and magic of every day existence……….

How does the creative process work?
Initially the seed of an idea is sewn.
The seed then enters into an incubation period which can be short lived, or take years to come to fruition.
The seed of an idea As we go about our daily lives, just like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle being revealed, the seed sprouts ideas that give us more information…..This can happen at any time.
It’s vital to record these ideas, because even when we think we couldn’t possibly forget a moment of inspiration……we can, and do, which is why it’s important to always have a sketch/notebook at hand.

I had already looked at your post on writer’s block!Janet has been my friend since my very first post on my first blog. Her work is stunning and she is a very fine and kind person.I don’t know if Samurai techniques would help me but am interested in trying anything.I rarely get really blocked .If I were earning a living this way I imagine that would make me more nervous. Then I might get blocked.I had a “friend” who told me my poetry is terrible. But as I enjoy writing I didn’t let it deter me.After a while and more rudeness I told her to stop writing to me.If it’s terrible then people will stop reading it.
The odd thing is I often write poems which I don’t understand.I wrote one about an owl and after my husband died I realised it was about him. That was after 4 years. But like anything including friendship you have to put in the time. And I certainly have.
Thanks for your comment on my blog and I hope you enjoy some of my writing.Katherine

Dear Katherine, Dylan Thomas said that sometimes he didn’t understand his own poetry, so you’re in good company. Yes, Janet Weight Reed is a good friend, lovely woman, and a terrific painter.
I’m sorry to hear about your husband. I’m happy you’re being productive. I look forward very much to reading more of your poems.
I’m going to refer you now to another friend of mine, another Janet, a writer who has read my book Fighting to Win and is applying it, with very god results, to her work. The post you will see shows how she is applying it.
